Cat House Calls

When In Home Cat Care Called For

At Riverstone Veterinary Group, we realize that situations may occur where one of our clients is unable to bring their cat into our office for an appointment. Reasons for this may include the cat owner being too sick to leave the house, the cat being unable to handle leaving the house or if more than three cats are present and require veterinary check-ups… in these cases it may be more efficient to have a veterinarian come to your home to perform basic wellness examinations. At Riverstone Veterinary Group we offer this as a service to our clients for convenience and to ensure that our feline patients are able to receive the veterinary care they need regardless of their circumstances.

When A Cat Owner Is Too Sick To Visit Our Office

One of our veterinarians and a vet assistant will come to your home if the cat owner is too sick to make the trip. This enables the cat to get the medical attention he needs and provide comfort to the owner knowing that the cat is getting the medical care it needs.

One of the most common reasons that people don’t make a visit to the vet, is because the owners do not want to put the cat in the carrier. They view this as being very stressful to the cat, and the owner.

When A Cat Is Unable To Handle Leaving Home

If it is too stressful for your cat to be transported to the hospital in a carrier, then we may be able to have one of our veterinarians come to your home and examine your cat in the comfort of familiar surroundings.

When You Have Too Many Cats To Bring To The Vet

If you have more than three cats, and cannot transport all of them to the hospital for an annual checkup or medical care, our in home cat care is available. If you have multiple cats in the household, (typically more than three), then we can make a house call to accomodate the owner and the cats.

What To Expect From A Veterinary House Call

When you schedule a cat house call, our hospital will send a veterinarian and a vet technician to examine your cat. We will bring all of the instruments necessary to perform a thorough exam. We are able to perform the following tests in your home:

  • Blood pressure check
  • Thorough examination
  • Acquire blood or urine for needed lab tests
  • Administer vaccines

To ensure that your cat is available to our veterinarian for examination, please make sure that it is in a small room like a bathroom or utility room before the doctor arrives for the examination. Of course, you are welcome to stay in the room throughout the exam.

It should be noted that there are some procedures that cannot be performed within your home. Therefore, when examining your cat at home, our veterinarians can typically get a good assessment through the physical exam as to whether or not your cat will require any further testing at the hospital. If such testing is required for diagnosis or treatment, then our veterinary staff will assist in the transport of your cat to and from the hospital.

How To Prepare For A Doctor To Examine Your Cat(s) At Home

There are two things you can do to prepare for your vet’s visit. By keeping your cat in a small room, we are able to conduct the examination while minimizing the stress on you and your cat. Have a list of questions handy for your vet addressing any concerns you may have.
